Job Title: Autism Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only

Start Date: June 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education is currently appointing a compassionate and dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to support students at a specialist school in Scarborough.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and additional learning needs, helping them build confidence, improve communication, and engage positively with education.

About the school:

The school is a specialist provision supporting students with autism and a range of additional learning needs, including communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, and associated behavioural challenges

About the role:

As an Autism Teaching Assistant (TA), you will support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them engage with learning, develop communication skills, and build independence while working closely with teachers and SEN staff to deliver consistent support throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities of Autism Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ASC
  • Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Assist with structured learning activities and classroom engagement
  • Implement individual support strategies and behaviour plans
  • Promote a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and SEN teams

As the Ideal Autism Teaching Assistant, you should have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • A degree in Psychology is highly desirable
