Location: Rotherham
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals with a background in sports, coaching, fitness, or youth activities to support secondary schools across Rotherham. This is a school-based support role where you will work closely with students in classrooms and around the school environment to encourage engagement, positive behaviour and participation in learning.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates looking to transfer their coaching and mentoring skills into education. While a sports background is highly valued, the role focuses on classroom support, behaviour support, cover supervision and supporting students with additional learning needs rather than delivering sports sessions.

About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional, you will support students throughout the school day by helping maintain focus, structure and positive engagement within lessons. You may work alongside teaching staff, provide targeted support for pupils with SEN or behavioural needs, and supervise classes during teacher absences where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers with classroom activities and student engagement

  • Provide learning and behaviour support to individual students and small groups

  • Supervise classes and support learning during teacher absences

  • Use coaching and mentoring skills to build positive relationships with students

  • Help maintain a calm, structured and inclusive school environment

  • Support students with SEN, behavioural needs or additional learning barriers

  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and participation

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, mentoring or similar roles

  • Confidence working with secondary-aged students

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Calm, resilient and adaptable approach

  • Ability to build positive professional relationships with young people

  • Genuine interest in supporting students within an education setting

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience within secondary schools in Rotherham while making a positive difference to students’ learning and development.
