SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School

At GSL Education, we are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Portsmouth, who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their SEN Resource Base from September 2026. Interviews are taking place over the next couple of weeks, so early applications are encouraged.

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working within the school’s SEN Resource Base, supporting students with EHCPs on both a 1:1 and small group basis. The role will involve supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally to help them access learning and thrive within the school environment.
You will work closely with experienced teaching staff and the SENCO to provide tailored support for students with a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism (ASC)
- ADHD
- Speech & Language needs
- Moderate learning difficulties
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)

Suitable Candidates Will Ideally Have:
- Previous experience working within a school or educational setting
- Experience supporting individuals with SEN, learning difficulties, or SEMH needs
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine passion for supporting young people
Transferable Experience Considered
We also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience from sectors such as:
- Care work

- Coaching or sports leadership
