Location: Newham, Plaistow
Pay Rate: £95-£110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term, Full-time
Working Hours: 8.30 AM-3.30 PM

GSL Education are looking for an experienced and resilient Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive primary school in Newham.

This role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support for a student with complex ASD needs within a primary school setting. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the student access learning, manage behaviour positively, and feel supported throughout the school day.

As this is a highly active role, the school is looking for someone who is confident working in challenging environments and has previous experience supporting children with significant additional needs and physical behaviours.

Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a student with complex ASD needs.
  • Assist the student in accessing classroom activities and maintaining engagement in learning.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support emotional regulation and safety.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to follow individual support plans and learning targets.
  • Maintain a calm, patient, and professional approach throughout the school day.
  • Support the creation of a structured and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Minimum one year experience supporting children with complex ASD needs and high-level SEN requirements.
  • Recent primary school-based experience.
  • Ability to provide effective 1:1 SEN support.
  • Confident working within a physically demanding role where students may display challenging physical behaviours, including kicking and high activity levels.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An updated CV covering the last ten years with no unexplained gaps.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
