Teacher of English

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teacher of English to join a specialist provision in Selby from September. This is a full-time role within a small, supportive Pupil Referral Unit environment, working with students who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

As an English Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Teach very small classes, typically consisting of around 4 students, allowing for highly personalised teaching and relationship-building.
  • Support students with SEMH needs through consistent routines, positive behaviour strategies, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Take full teaching responsibilities including planning, preparation, marking, assessment, and progress tracking.
  • Create a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes confidence, resilience, and academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, SEN staff, and external professionals to support student outcomes.

The Ideal Teacher of English will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS).
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, behavioural needs, or within alternative provision settings.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach to teaching.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to succeed both academically and personally.
