Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Pay rate: £95-£115 Per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are currently welcoming applications from committed SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Newcastle. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may need additional help managing emotions, behaviour, and engagement in learning.

As a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with pupils and staff to provide tailored support in a structured and supportive environment.

Core Responsibilities of SEMH TA:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils in managing emotions and developing positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships to encourage confidence and engagement.
  • Assist teachers in delivering adapted learning activities.
  • Help create a calm, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain consistent and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Genuine passion for supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
