Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newham
Salary: £108 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Long Term, Full-time
Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:15 PM

GSL Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Newham.

The successful candidate will provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with high and complex ASD needs. This role requires a calm, resilient, and proactive individual who can build positive relationships and support the child both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a pupil with high-needs ASD
  • Support the child with classroom learning and daily routines
  • Encourage communication, engagement, and social interaction
  • Implement behaviour and support strategies set by the school and SEN team
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Help create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour when required
  • Support the pupil’s emotional wellbeing and independence

Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Minimum 1 year experience supporting children with complex ASD needs
  • Recent primary school-based experience is essential
  • Experience supporting SEN pupils on a 1:1 basis
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Patient, adaptable, and nurturing approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
