Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newham
Salary: £108 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Long Term, Full-time
Working Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Are you a skilled SEN Teaching Assistant with a commitment to supporting children with complex ASD needs?

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive primary school in Newham.

This rewarding role involves delivering tailored 1:1 support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and high-level needs. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils to help them engage in learning, develop confidence, and strengthen their social and emotional skills within a structured, supportive, and nurturing environment.

Main Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for students with complex ASD needs
  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Assist students in accessing classroom activities and learning tasks
  • Implement personalised support strategies and behaviour plans
  • Build strong and positive relationships with students
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
  • Support communication, emotional regulation, and classroom engagement
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Minimum 1 year experience supporting children with high-needs ASD
  • Recent primary school-based experience
  • Experience supporting SEN students on a 1:1 basis
  • Calm, patient, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
