Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Plaistow, Newham
Salary: £110 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Long Term, Full-time
Working Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with complex ASD needs?
GSL Education are seeking a committed and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to work within a primary school in Plaistow, Newham.
This rewarding role involves providing dedicated one-to-one support for a child with complex Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and high-level needs. The successful candidate must be confident managing challenging behaviours and able to support a physically active child within a structured and nurturing learning environment.
Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with complex ASD needs
- Support the child’s academic, social, and emotional development
- Implement behaviour management strategies and personalised support plans
- Assist the pupil in accessing learning activities within the classroom
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the child
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff
- Support the child during periods of dysregulation and physical behaviour
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment
SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year experience supporting children with complex ASD needs
- Recent experience working within a primary school setting
- Experience supporting SEN students on a 1:1 basis
- Confidence managing physically demanding behaviours, including kicking and physical outbursts
- Calm, patient, resilient, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
