Job Title: Attendance Officer

Location: Sheffield (S5)

Salary: £115 - £130 per day

Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Flexible / Day-to-day / Long-term

Start Date: September 2026

Are you experienced in improving pupil attendance and building strong relationships with families? A school in Sheffield (S5) is seeking a proactive and empathetic Attendance Officer to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role: As an Attendance Officer, you will take the lead on monitoring, analysing and improving pupil attendance across the school. You will work closely with families, pastoral staff and external agencies to identify barriers to attendance and implement effective, timely interventions that make a measurable difference.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily attendance data and follow up on unexplained absences promptly
  • Contact parents and carers regarding attendance concerns via phone, letter and home visits where necessary
  • Work alongside pastoral and senior leadership teams to develop and implement attendance strategies
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records in line with school policy
  • Liaise with external agencies, including the local authority and social care, where appropriate
  • Support families in overcoming barriers to regular school attendance
  • Produce attendance reports and contribute to whole-school improvement planning

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral or family liaison role, ideally within an education setting
  • Good understanding of attendance legislation and statutory guidance
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage sensitively with families from a range of backgrounds
  • Confident, organised and able to manage a varied caseload effectively
  • A solution-focused approach with the ability to build trust with students, families and staff
  • Proficient in using school information management systems (desirable)
