SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Bournemouth)
Full-Time | Permanent | Term Time Only
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026

GSL Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Bournemouth, who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEN provision on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly supportive and experienced SEN team, working closely alongside the school’s SENCO and wider pastoral staff to support students both academically and emotionally throughout their school journey.

The school are looking to appoint the right person and are happy to wait until September for a strong candidate currently in a role.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) within the school’s SEN Resource Base, as well as within mainstream classroom settings where appropriate.

You will provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping students access learning, develop confidence, and make positive progress socially and emotionally.

Students may present with a range of additional needs including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Dyslexia and Moderate Learning Difficulties
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs
  • SEMH and additional complex learning needs

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students during lessons and differentiated learning activities
  • Adapting resources and approaches to suit individual learning needs
  • Encouraging independence, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and wider support staff
  • Helping to maintain a positive, nurturing, and structured learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The school are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

You may have:

  • Previous experience working within a school or SEN setting
  • OR transferable experience from care, youth work, support work, coaching, or residential settings
  • A calm, empathetic and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • A genuine desire to make a long-term difference in students’ lives
