Job description

Sports Background? Bring Your Skills Into the Classroom in Dinnington!

Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support

Location: Dinnington

Salary: £460 – £650 per week

Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day

Start Date: Immediate

GSL Education are looking for driven and adaptable individuals with a background in sport, coaching, or fitness to work within school settings across Dinnington. These are education-focused roles where the priority is supporting classroom learning, assisting with behaviour management, and helping students stay engaged and productive throughout the school day.

This is a genuine opportunity to redirect your skills from the sports field into a school environment — somewhere those same qualities of motivation, structure, and communication can have a lasting impact on young people's development.

About the Role:

This is a school-based support position, not a sports coaching or PE delivery role. Working alongside teachers and support staff, your focus will be on helping pupils engage with their learning, supervising lessons, and providing practical support within the classroom. Your background in sport gives you a strong foundation — particularly in building rapport with young people and managing group dynamics — but your core responsibilities centre on education support, not sport.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside teaching staff to support learning and maintain an effective classroom environment
  • Supervise lessons in a cover or learning support capacity, keeping students on task and focused
  • Draw on coaching experience to engage disengaged pupils, manage behaviour, and encourage positive attitudes
  • Provide targeted support to individuals or small groups who need additional guidance
  • Help foster a calm, structured, and respectful atmosphere across the school day
  • Report relevant observations about pupil progress and behaviour to the appropriate staff members

Requirements:

  • A background in sports coaching, fitness, physical activity, youth work, or a comparable people-focused role
  • Comfort and confidence working with young people in a group setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to motivate and connect with pupils
  • A composed, professional, and flexible approach to varied daily demands
  • A genuine commitment to supporting pupils' education and wellbeing — rather than delivering sport
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete a new application)

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing a new application.

As an ethical, independent recruitment agency, GSL Education are committed to providing quality teaching and support staff across the UK.

To work with GSL Education in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an up-to-date CV with two references from the last 2 years
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
