Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay rate: £460 - £600 per week (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract type -Day-to-day/ Long-term, Full-time/ Part-time

GSL Education are currently welcoming applications from compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Rotherham. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may need additional help managing emotions, behaviour, and engagement in learning.

As a Social, Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with pupils to provide encouragement, structure, and tailored support within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships to encourage confidence and engagement.
  • Support teachers in delivering adapted learning activities.
  • Promote a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Essential Requirements of SEMH TA:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain consistent and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Genuine commitment to supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
