Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Tamworth
Salary: £95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Tamworth.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will provide tailored support to help students engage with learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships and coping strategies.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Support students in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and completing classroom tasks
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and personalised support plans
  • Build strong, positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

To be an SEMH Teaching Assistant, what you should have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable but not essential)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and effectively
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable students
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
