Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Gateshead
Salary: £95 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Gateshead.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance to students, helping them access the curriculum and build confidence and independence.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with additional needs
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and completing tasks
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored strategies
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt lessons to meet student needs
  • Build strong, positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN setting
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable but not essential)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs
  • A relevant degree such as Psychology or Education is beneficial
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
