Careers Advisor
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire
Setting: Specialist Provision
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Ad hoc / Flexible Hours
Pay Rate: £120 – £160 per day (dependent on experience)
GSL Education are currently seeking a Level 6 qualified Careers Advisor to support a specialist provision in York on an ad hoc, flexible basis throughout the summer term. This is a rewarding opportunity to work 1:1 with pupils who have EHCPs, helping them explore pathways, build confidence, and prepare for their next steps into further education, training, or employment.
About the Setting
This specialist provision supports young people with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, ASC, and learning difficulties. The setting is focused on creating a supportive, inclusive environment where pupils are encouraged to develop independence, life skills, and positive futures beyond education. Careers guidance plays a key role in helping students understand their strengths and make informed decisions about their next steps.
The Role
As a Careers Advisor, you will:
- Provide 1:1 careers guidance to students with EHCPs.
- Support pupils in identifying strengths, interests, and realistic career pathways.
- Deliver tailored advice around further education, apprenticeships, and employment routes.
- Help students develop employability skills, including CV writing, interview preparation, and confidence building.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure guidance aligns with each student’s EHCP outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of guidance sessions in line with Gatsby Benchmarks and statutory requirements.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A Level 6 Careers Guidance qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience working with young people with SEND, particularly those with EHCPs.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of post-16 pathways, local opportunities, and labour market information.
- The ability to deliver engaging and personalised guidance on a flexible basis.

- Hold a Level 6 Careers Guidance qualification.
- Have the Right to Work in the UK.
- Be able to provide two recent references.
- Have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
