Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor
Location: Medway, Kent
Salary: £100 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start: ASAP
Contract: Long-term, Full-time
We are currently recruiting a Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor to work in a busy and supportive secondary school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional who is passionate about supporting young people's wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
This role is ideal for someone confident working across year groups, providing classroom cover, and supporting students pastorally throughout the school day. The successful Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor will be comfortable switching between pastoral duties and cover supervision, often within the same day.
Key Responsibilities for the Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor:
- Supporting students with behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing
- Working closely with pastoral leaders, Heads of Year, and safeguarding teams
- Delivering classroom supervision during teacher absence (pre-set work provided)
- Supporting students in lessons to remain focused and engaged
- Providing mentoring and 1:1 support where required
- Assisting with breaktime/lunchtime supervision and managing low-level behaviour
- Liaising with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate records of behaviour incidents and interventions
Requirements for this Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor role:
- Experience working with children or young people (school-based experience preferred)
- Confident managing classroom behaviour and maintaining routines
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A calm, consistent and professional approach
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Ability to work flexibly across pastoral and cover duties
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Pastoral Assistant / Cover Supervisor, Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Pastoral Support Officer, Behaviour Mentor, or similar
- Team Teach or de-escalation training
- Knowledge of secondary school systems and behaviour policies
