Position: ASC Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £500-600

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and knowledgeable ASC Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition within a specialist or inclusive educational setting in East London. This role is well suited to an individual with a strong understanding of autism and a commitment to supporting pupils in achieving their full potential in a structured and supportive environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Assist in the implementation of personalised learning plans tailored to meet pupils’ specific needs
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and sensory regulation
  • Use structured approaches (such as visual supports and routine-based strategies) to enhance learning and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and therapists to deliver consistent support
  • Promote positive behaviour and support pupils in managing transitions and changes in routine
  • Foster independence, confidence and social development
  • Monitor and record progress, contributing to reviews and support plans

 

Person Specification

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition is essential or highly desirable
  • Understanding of autism-specific strategies and approaches (e.g. visual timetables, structured teaching)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Ability to respond effectively to individual sensory and behavioural needs
  • Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding practices
  • Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, psychology or support work are advantageous
