Position: SEMH Support Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £500-600

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in East London. This position is well suited to an individual with a background in mental health support who is committed to enabling young people with social, emotional and mental health needs to achieve their full potential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation strategies and positive behavioural approaches
  • Establish and maintain professional, trusting relationships that promote a safe and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff to implement individualised support plans
  • Respond to challenging situations with a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach
  • Encourage the development of independence, confidence and positive social skills
  • Contribute to the creation of an inclusive and nurturing educational environment
  • Monitor pupil progress and assist in the development and review of wellbeing and behaviour support plans

 

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable experience in a mental health support role is essential
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is highly desirable
  • Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional wellbeing strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Ability to remain composed and effective when managing challenging situations
  • Relevant qualifications in mental health, psychology, education or a related field are advantageous
