Sports Graduate / Sports Coach – Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Daily Rate: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are seeking a Sports Graduate, Sports Coach, or enthusiastic sports professional to work as a Teaching Assistant within a specialist provision in York. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your sporting background, teamwork skills, and resilience to positively impact the lives of young people who need structure, encouragement, and strong role models.
About the School
This setting is a well-established alternative provision supporting students aged 5–16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school focuses on re-engaging students through structure, routine, and positive relationships, often incorporating physical activity and practical learning to support engagement and behaviour.
The Role
As a Sports Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, both in and out of the classroom.
- Use sport and physical activity as a tool to engage, motivate and build relationships.
- Help manage behaviour through clear boundaries, consistency and positive reinforcement.
- Support students in developing teamwork, resilience, and emotional regulation.
- Assist with classroom learning, adapting activities to suit individual needs.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting respect, discipline and confidence.
