About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Learning Mentor to work within a mainstream infant and nursery school setting in Portsmouth, supporting children with a range of additional needs and behavioural challenges.

You will work closely with teaching staff and inclusion leads to identify pupil needs and deliver targeted support, both in and out of the classroom. This role involves helping children access learning, develop positive behaviour strategies, and build emotional resilience.

You will provide 1:1 and small group interventions, adapting approaches to meet individual needs and working collaboratively with families and external agencies where required.

Key Responsibilities

Work in partnership with staff to identify and support pupils’ individual needs
Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to support learning and behaviour
Support pupils in accessing learning through tailored strategies and resources
Help implement behaviour and support plans
Encourage the development of social, emotional, and independence skills
Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
Track and monitor pupil progress against targets
Support positive behaviour management strategies and routines
Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Contribute to meetings, training, and wider school activities

Essential Requirements

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)
Experience working with primary-aged children
Experience supporting children with behavioural or emotional needs
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Good understanding of safeguarding in education settings
