About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school.

This role involves providing 1:1 support for a pupil within a mainstream classroom setting. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider staff team to ensure the child is fully supported, engaged, and able to access learning alongside their peers.

You will help create a structured, nurturing environment that supports both learning and emotional development, adapting approaches to meet the child’s individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND within a mainstream classroom
Work closely with the class teacher to adapt and differentiate learning activities
Support the child’s engagement, communication, and access to learning
Use scaffolding and step-by-step approaches to support understanding
Implement positive behaviour strategies and consistent routines
Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional regulation
Support the child’s inclusion within classroom and school activities
Help maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment

Essential Requirements

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)
Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or youth setting
Understanding of supporting children with additional needs in a mainstream setting
Good communication and teamwork skills

Have experience supporting children with SEND (desirable but not essential)
Be calm, patient, and nurturing in approach
Be confident supporting learning in a mainstream classroom
Be able to follow guidance from teachers and SENCOs
Be proactive, reliable, and well-organised
Be able to build positive relationships with children and staff
Be committed to supporting a child’s learning and development journey
