Job Title: Pastoral Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Salary: £95 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking caring and proactive Pastoral Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Newcastle Upon Tyne.

As a Pastoral Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pastoral teams, teachers, and families to support students’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and overall engagement with school life.

Key Responsibilities of a Pastoral Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group pastoral support to students
  • Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Assist in managing behaviour and promoting positive attitudes
  • Work closely with pastoral staff to implement support strategies
  • Build strong relationships with students to encourage engagement
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning
  • Monitor and report on student wellbeing and progress
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment

Requirements of a Pastoral Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with young people in a pastoral, education, or care setting is desirable
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • A proactive and supportive attitude
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
