Job description

Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education is seeking energetic and adaptable individuals with a sports, coaching, or fitness background to work in school-based settings across Sheffield. These roles are not PE teaching positions, but classroom-based support roles where you will assist with learning, behaviour, and supervision throughout the school day.

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to move from sport into education, using coaching skills such as communication, structure, and motivation to support young people in a structured school environment.

About the Role:
This role is suited to individuals from sports coaching or fitness backgrounds who are keen to work in education support rather than sports delivery. You will be based in the classroom, supporting teachers, supervising lessons, and helping students remain engaged and on task. Your sporting background will be used as a tool for building rapport, encouraging participation, and supporting positive behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching staff with classroom learning and activities

  • Supervise students during lessons as part of cover or learning support duties

  • Use transferable coaching skills to engage and motivate learners

  • Support positive behaviour, focus, and participation in lessons

  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment

  • Provide feedback to staff on student engagement and progress

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, or similar roles

  • Confidence working with groups of young people in a school setting

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Professional, adaptable, and reliable approach

  • Genuine interest in supporting education and student development

This is a great opportunity for sports coaches in Sheffield to gain valuable experience in education settings while supporting pupils’ learning and development in the classroom.

To work with GSL Education in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK

  • Hold an up-to-date CV with two references from the last 2 years

  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
