Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Daily Rate: £92 – £115 per day
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full Time or Part Time, Term Time Only

GSL Education is working with a well-regarded and Ofsted graded ‘Good’ Special Needs School in Scarborough to appoint a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, to support children with a range of additional needs. The school provides educational for children with a range of additional needs, including moderate and severe learning difficulties, autism, speech, language and communication needs and sensory needs.

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be:

  • Providing small group and 1:1 support to children and young people aged 2 to 16 years old.
  • Taking a holistic approach to provide personalised support.
  • Supporting pupils with learning activities, adapting tasks to suit individual ability levels.
  • Assisting the class teacher with the delivery of personalised and engaging lessons.
  • Encouraging the development of communication, social, and life skills.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour, using consistent and positive strategies.
  • Assisting with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Helping to create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Supporting the use of visual aids, PECs, Makaton, or other communication tools (where applicable).
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support pupil outcomes.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.

This role will suit:

  • SEN Teaching Assistants or those with experience in specialist settings.
  • Support Workers or Care Assistants with experience supporting individuals with additional needs.
  • Youth Workers or Behaviour Mentors looking to transition into education.
  • Graduates in Psychology, Education, or SEN-related subjects.
  • Individuals with experience supporting ASC, speech and language needs, or complex learning difficulties.
  • Early Years practitioners with SEN experience.
  • People with a background in health and social care looking to move into a school setting.
