Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Monday – Friday)
Daily Rate: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education is working with a specialist alternative provision in York to appoint a Behaviour specialist Learning Support Assistant. This setting supports pupils aged 5 to 16 who require a more personalised and nurturing approach to education, often due to SEMH needs or barriers to mainstream learning.

What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis.
- Helping pupils re-engage with education through structured and tailored support.
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours in a calm, professional manner.
- Acting as a positive role model, promoting respect and routine.
- Supporting learning within the classroom and during less structured times.
- Encouraging emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
Who this role would suit:
- Behaviour Mentors or Teaching Assistants.
- Youth Workers or Support Workers.
- Sports Coaches or individuals with mentoring experience.
- Psychology or SEN graduates.
- Anyone with experience supporting SEMH, behaviour, or vulnerable young people.
What we’re looking for:
- A calm, confident, and consistent approach.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to build trust with students who may be disengaged.
- Experience supporting behaviour or additional needs.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people.
To be considered, you must:
- Have relevant experience or a related qualification.
- Provide two recent references.
- Have the Right to Work in the UK.
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
