Behaviour Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Daily Rate: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education is supporting a well-regarded alternative provision in York, seeking to recruit a Behaviour Mentor on a full-time basis to support children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream school.

This position is suitable, but not limited to:

  • Youth Workers
  • SEN Teaching Assistants
  • SEMH Support Workers
  • Sports Coaches
  • Graduates of Special Educational Needs and Inclusion and Psychology-related subjects
  • Teaching Assistants looking for a new challenge.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students aged 5-16 years old with additional needs.
  • Implement, encourage and reinforce positive behaviour across school.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to support students during challenging situations and in crisis moments.
  • Help students understand and regulate their emotions.
  • Support students during academic activities and lessons.
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with students who may be disengaged from education.
  • Help remove barriers to learning, both academically and emotionally.
  • Adapt approaches to suit individual needs and learning styles.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you should have:

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach  
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • The ability to build rapport with challenging or vulnerable students.
  • Consistency and clear communication.

  • Have a relevant qualification or Degree, or at least 2 years of practical experience.
  • Be able to provide 2 references from within the last 2 years, including your more recent employment.
  • Have the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one.
