SEMH Teaching Assistant – Birmingham (B33)

GSL Education are seeking a resilient and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist provision in Birmingham (B33). This is a rewarding opportunity to work with primary and Key Stage 3 boys who require additional support due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school provides a structured and supportive environment for pupils who hold an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The curriculum is carefully adapted to meet a wide range of educational and social needs, helping students progress towards greater independence and reintegration into mainstream settings where appropriate.

Your Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build strong, positive relationships to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Assist in delivering a tailored curriculum suited to individual learning levels
  • Support with behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
  • Encourage pupils’ social development, resilience, and confidence

  • Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or SEND
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Team player with excellent communication skills

Requirements

  • Must be registered with GSL Education before full school details are disclosed
  • Must hold a DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
  • Relevant qualifications or training are desirable but not essential
