SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Thanet, Kent
Salary: £93+ per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time

GSL Education Kent are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join a friendly specialist school that provides excellent care and tailored education to children with a range of additional needs.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a steady Monday–Friday routine and has experience supporting students with autism, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties, and complex learning profiles. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to help pupils navigate their educational and emotional journeys. You will play a vital part in their daily routines, helping to build their independence, self-esteem, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day
  • Assist pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and emotional well-being
  • Support positive behaviour using calm, therapeutic strategies
  • Help the class teacher maintain a warm, inclusive, and productive learning environment
  • Encourage independence, daily living skills, and active pupil participation
  • Follow individual learning plans and EHCPs with care and consistency

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (in a school or care setting)
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing demeanour
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to follow safeguarding and behaviour support protocols
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
