Experienced Teacher
Location: York
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum
Contract: Part Time (Wednesdays only)
Start Date: Immediate
Duration: Until Summer 2026
GSL Education are seeking an experienced and compassionate Teacher to work one day per week (Wednesdays) in a specialist setting in York, supporting younger pupils with severe communication needs.
About the School
This specialist provision supports pupils with complex needs, including significant communication difficulties. The school provides a highly structured and nurturing environment where pupils benefit from personalised learning approaches, specialist interventions and consistent routines. Staff work closely as a team to ensure pupils are supported both academically and in their communication and social development.
Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored lessons to pupils with complex communication needs
- Use adapted teaching strategies to support engagement and understanding
- Support development of communication skills through structured approaches
- Work closely with support staff and therapists where required
- Create a calm, supportive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly communication needs
- Understanding of strategies such as PECS, Makaton or similar is desirable
- Patient, resilient and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
