Mental Health Support Worker

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)

The successful Mental Health Support Worker will work closely with pupils who may require additional emotional support, helping them regulate behaviour, engage positively in school life, and build confidence. Key Responsibilities of the Mental Health Support Worker Role:

  • Providing emotional wellbeing support to pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive coping strategies
  • Building trusted relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Assisting with behaviour support and engagement in learning
  • Monitoring wellbeing, attendance, and pastoral needs
  • Promoting a safe, calm, and inclusive school environment

The Ideal Mental Health Support Worker Will:

  • Have experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
  • Demonstrate empathy, resilience, and strong communication skills
  • Be confident supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Have a calm and proactive approach to behaviour support
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply)
  • Have a fully checkable work history
