Make a Real Difference – Support Learners as an SEMH Teaching Assistant in Sheffield (S25)!

GSL Education are seeking a committed, empathetic, and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a welcoming school setting in the S25 area of Sheffield. Your Role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to engage positively in learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored support strategies that promote emotional regulation and wellbeing.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with students to help them feel safe, valued, and understood.
  • Contribute to creating a nurturing, trauma-informed, and inclusive environment within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support student progress and development.

What You’ll Need as an SEMH TA:

  • Background in care, residential support, youth work, or similar (highly advantageous).
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach, with the ability to de-escalate and support emotional wellbeing.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a dedicated team.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
