GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) with a strong sports background to support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming and inclusive school in the Sheffield S25 area.

This rewarding role is ideal for someone passionate about using physical activity, coaching, and positive relationships to inspire and motivate pupils who need additional emotional and behavioural support.

Your Role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Will Include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support suited to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Using sport, physical activity, and teamwork to promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Supporting personalised learning strategies and behaviour intervention plans.
  • Helping to create a safe, calm, and engaging learning environment.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.

What We’re Looking for in an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA):

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or similar needs.
  • A background in sports coaching, PE, fitness, or youth sports leadership.
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach.
  • Strong behaviour support knowledge and an understanding of trauma-informed practice (preferred).
  • Level 2/3 TA qualification beneficial but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
