Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Doncaster (DN5)
Salary: £105 - £110 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time
GSL Education are delighted to be partnering with a supportive and inclusive school in the DN5 area of Doncaster to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA). This role is ideal for individuals with resilience, empathy, and a strong passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs—particularly those presenting challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs
- Implement effective strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and engage positively
- Build trusting relationships and act as a consistent, positive role model
- Support with challenging behaviour, using de-escalation and trauma-informed techniques
- Promote inclusive learning by adapting tasks and creating a supportive environment
Requirements for the SEMH Teaching Assistant Role:
- Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or SEND
- Strong ability to stay calm, de-escalate situations, and offer emotional support
- Understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour support strategies
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, Psychology degree) are desirable
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
