Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Doncaster (DN2)
Salary: £105 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time

GSL Education are seeking committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants (SEMH TA) to work in a school setting in Doncaster (DN2).

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students regulate their behaviour, engage in learning, and develop positive coping strategies. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals with experience managing challenging behaviour who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Support students in managing challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies
  • Assist the teacher in delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Help implement behaviour support plans and intervention strategies
  • Build strong, positive relationships to encourage student engagement
  • Support students’ emotional wellbeing and social development
  • Monitor and record behaviour and progress, reporting to staff
  • Maintain a safe, calm, and structured learning environment

Requirements of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with challenging behaviour is essential
  • Background in education, youth work, care, or similar settings is desirable
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
