SEMH Support Worker
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £85–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible
A specialist school in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Support Worker to join their team. This SEMH Support Worker role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
The successful SEMH Support Worker will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils who may require additional emotional regulation, behavioural guidance and daily structure. As a SEMH Support Worker, you will help build positive relationships, encourage engagement and support pupils to access learning successfully.
Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Support Worker:

Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

Assisting with classroom engagement and daily routines.

Supporting behaviour strategies and de-escalation approaches.

Helping to maintain a safe, structured and inclusive environment.
The Ideal SEMH Support Worker Will:

Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs.

Be calm, patient and resilient in approach.

Have strong communication and behaviour support skills.

Be confident managing behaviours that are challenging.

Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

Have a fully checkable work history.
