Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Newcastle.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored support, helping students engage with their learning and develop positive behaviours within the classroom.
Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs
- Assist the class teacher in delivering structured and engaging lessons
- Support students in managing their emotions and behaviour effectively
- Implement behaviour management strategies and support plans
- Build strong, positive relationships with students to encourage engagement
- Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor and report on student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and other professionals
Requirements of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
- Background in education, youth work, care, or similar fields is desirable
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable but not essential)
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
