Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistants
Location: Wakefield (WF4)
Pay rate: £460 - £600 per week (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract type -Day-to-day/ Long-term, Full-time/ Part-time

GSL Education are currently welcoming applications from dedicated individuals for the role of SEMH Teaching Assistant in schools across Wakefield (WF4). This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils overcome challenges, engage in learning, and develop essential life skills.

As a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide targeted support for pupils with social, emotional, or mental health needs, helping them remain focused, confident, and included in school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Implement strategies to manage behaviour and support emotional wellbeing.
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and social skills development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams.
  • Record observations and report on pupil progress as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and emotional support techniques.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
