Do you enjoy supporting young people who need additional help with their social, emotional, and mental health?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to work with schools in Rotherham, including the S25 area, supporting students who require extra guidance to manage their emotions and stay engaged in learning.

As an SEMH TA, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide structured support for students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them build confidence and develop positive learning habits.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Help students manage their emotions and behaviour in the classroom.
  • Support the teacher in maintaining a calm and focused learning environment.
  • Encourage positive relationships and promote student wellbeing.
  • Assist with implementing behaviour support strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to support student progress.

Requirements of SEMH TA:

  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly those with SEMH needs, is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • A patient, supportive, and resilient approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
