Are you a caring and patient Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs?

A welcoming primary school in Harlow is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a child with autism. This is a full-time, long-term role starting immediately, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a child’s school experience.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will provide consistent support for a pupil within the classroom, helping them access learning, follow routines, and develop their confidence and social skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the child receives the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.

This role would suit someone with experience supporting children with autism who has a calm, nurturing, and adaptable approach.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism

  • Supporting the child during classroom lessons and structured activities

  • Assisting with communication, engagement, and social interaction

  • Helping the child follow routines and transitions throughout the school day

  • Encouraging independence and positive behaviour

  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO

  • Supporting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment


The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with autism or additional learning needs

  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • A genuine passion for helping children succeed

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
