Secondary Teaching Assistant

Location: Ashington
Salary: £85–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A supportive secondary school in Ashington is seeking a motivated and reliable Secondary Teaching Assistant to join their team. This Secondary Teaching Assistant role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people in their learning and development.

The successful Secondary Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers to support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will provide classroom assistance, support small group learning and help pupils who may require additional academic or behavioural support.

Key Responsibilities of the Secondary Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across a range of subjects.

  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

  • Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom organisation.

  • Promoting positive behaviour and engagement.

  • Supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs where required.

  • Helping to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant Will:

  • Have previous experience working with young people or within a school setting.

  • Be confident supporting pupils with varying abilities.

  • Have strong communication and behaviour management skills.

  • Be adaptable, proactive and resilient.

  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

  • Have a fully checkable work history.

This Secondary Teaching Assistant role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. All successful applicants must satisfy safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
