Primary Teacher
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: April 2026
Contract: Full-Time, 1 Year Maternity Cover
Salary: MPS/UPS (dependent on experience)
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Teacher to join a specialist provision in York for a 1-year maternity cover, starting April 2026. This is a full-time opportunity to work with a small group of pupils with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, delivering highly personalised learning in a supportive and structured environment.
This role would suit a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and is confident adapting teaching approaches to support pupils with additional needs.

The school is a specialist provision supporting pupils aged 5–16 who require additional support to engage successfully with education. Many pupils have Autism, SEMH needs or other additional learning needs, and benefit from a highly personalised approach to learning.

The Role:
- Deliver engaging and differentiated primary curriculum lessons to a small class group.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of pupils with Autism and SEMH.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour through consistent routines and positive strategies.
- Work closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff to provide individualised support.
- Track pupil progress and celebrate small but meaningful achievements.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs.
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may find school challenging.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
