Mental Health Support Worker

Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A supportive and inclusive school in Middlesbrough is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join their team. This Mental Health Support Worker role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting young people with their emotional wellbeing and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

The successful Mental Health Support Worker will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SEN staff to provide support for pupils experiencing social, emotional and mental health challenges. As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will help pupils develop coping strategies, build resilience and maintain positive engagement with their education.

Key Responsibilities of the Mental Health Support Worker:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with mental health needs.

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and wellbeing strategies.

  • Promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

  • Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupil progress.

  • Assisting with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Helping to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.

The Ideal Mental Health Support Worker Will:

  • Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or mental health needs.

  • Be patient, resilient and empathetic.

  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Be confident supporting pupils who may present behaviours that are challenging.

  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

  • Have a fully checkable work history.

This Mental Health Support Worker role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. All successful applicants must satisfy safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
