Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work in schools across Newcastle. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour and require additional guidance to stay focused and engaged in the classroom.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to support students in managing their behaviour, developing positive relationships, and achieving their full potential.

Behaviour Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with behavioural needs
  • Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and individual behaviour plans
  • Help students develop self-regulation, confidence, and positive coping strategies
  • Support pupils who may become disengaged or display challenging behaviour during lessons
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and pastoral staff
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students

Key Requirements of a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural or additional needs is desirable
  • A qualification in SEN, Psychology, Education etc. or a similar field is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A patient, calm, and resilient approach when working with students
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and development
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
