Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

If so, GSL Education are seeking committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Newcastle. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a real difference in the lives of students with additional learning needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will work closely with teachers and SEN staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of special educational needs, helping them to engage in learning and reach their full potential.

Your Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with Special Educational Needs
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering personalised learning activities
  • Support pupils with communication, social, and emotional development
  • Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support students in managing their emotions
  • Assist students with classroom tasks and adapting learning materials where required
  • Monitor and record student progress and report observations to the teacher or SENCO
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Skills & Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable
  • A qualification in SEN, Psychology, Education etc. or a similar field is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare is desirable but not mandatory.
  • A patient, caring, and understanding approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students with additional needs
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
