Job Title: Head of Geography
Location: Newham
Payrate:£40,317- £62,496 per annum (Depending on experience)
Start Date: April/September 2026
Contract: Permanent
GSL Education’s London Branch is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Head of Geography to join a supportive secondary school in Newham. About the Role:
As Head of Geography, you will take a leading role in shaping the geography curriculum and driving high-quality teaching and learning across the department. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure students develop a strong understanding and appreciation of Geography, while supporting the school’s vision for academic excellence and student success. Responsibilities for Head of Geography:
- Lead and manage the geography department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Plan, develop, and review an engaging Geography curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4, and potentially 5.
- Support and mentor Geography teachers within the department.
- Monitor student progress and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity about the world.
- Work collaboratively with senior leadership to support whole-school improvement.
Requirements for Head of Geography:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Proven experience teaching Geography in a secondary school setting.
- Previous leadership or middle leadership experience is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate staff and students while maintaining high professional standards.
- Passion for Geography education and student achievement.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
