Job Title: SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (Depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time

A Sheffield school is seeking a dedicated, patient, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team and help students build confidence, stability, and engagement with learning.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students facing emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them engage with learning and develop essential skills. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the educational, social, and emotional growth of pupils with SEN while working alongside experienced teachers and support staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement individualised support strategies to help students with SEN engage in learning and manage emotions effectively.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to students’ SEMH needs.

  • Foster a supportive and trusting environment that encourages confidence, independence, and social development.

  • Work closely with teachers and staff to ensure consistent, coordinated support for students with SEN.

  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to inform teaching and interventions.

  • Support students in developing positive behaviour, coping strategies, and social skills.

  • Assist with practical aspects of school life and wellbeing support, in line with school policies.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or SEN is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of strategies to support students with SEN.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Calm, patient, and adaptable approach.

  • Compassionate, resilient, and committed to student wellbeing.
