Learning Support Assistant – SEN Provision (Autism Specialist Setting)
Full-Time | Long-Term | Mainstream Primary School
A supportive and well-resourced mainstream primary school is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join its dedicated SEN provision, which specialises in supporting children with autism.
This specialist provision operates within the main school building, providing a structured and nurturing environment where pupils with additional needs can thrive while remaining part of the wider school community.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone with strong SEN experience who is passionate about making a meaningful difference.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant within the SEN provision, you will provide hands-on, consistent support to pupils with autism. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team to help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, regulate emotions, and build independence.
Experience supporting children with SEN — particularly autism — is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities

Providing dedicated support to pupils with autism within the SEN provision

Supporting learning through structured, differentiated activities

Assisting with communication development and social interaction

Implementing behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

Supporting sensory needs and daily routines

Encouraging independence and confidence

Assisting with transitions between the provision and mainstream classroom where appropriate

Working collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate

Proven experience supporting children with SEN, specifically autism
-
A calm, patient, and consistent approach

Strong understanding of behaviour management and regulation strategies

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

Resilient, proactive, and adaptable
No formal qualifications are required — substantial SEN experience is the key requirement.
