Job Title: Deputy Head / Assistant Head
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £150 – £220 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time | Long-term

GSL Education are seeking a Deputy Head / Assistant Head to join a secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) holder with experience in behaviour and attitudes, looking to progress their leadership career.

 

About the Role:

As Deputy Head, you will support the Headteacher in leading and managing all aspects of school life. You will play a key role in shaping school culture, improving behaviour and attitudes, supporting staff development, and driving high standards across the school. This role is ideal for an Assistant Head or senior leader aspiring to progress to a Headteacher position in the future.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Headteacher in strategic leadership and school management

  • Lead on behaviour, attitudes, and pastoral support to ensure a positive school culture

  • Support teaching and learning quality across all departments

  • Develop and mentor staff, promoting professional growth and high performance

  • Assist with curriculum planning, assessment, and monitoring pupil progress

  • Ensure safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies are upheld at all times

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential

  • Leadership experience, ideally as Assistant Head or similar senior role

  • Experience managing behaviour, attitudes, and pastoral provision

  • Strong communication, organisation, and decision-making skills

  • Ambition to progress in school leadership and senior management

  • Flexible, proactive, and committed to school improvement

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one with GSL Education
