Are you a Sports Coach, Personal Trainer, or Fitness Professional looking to step into the world of education? Schools across Sheffield greatly value the discipline, leadership, and motivational skills developed through sports and coaching environments. This is an excellent opportunity to use your transferable skills to make a real difference in the classroom.
We are currently recruiting confident and driven individuals from sports and fitness backgrounds to work as Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors. While some opportunities may involve physical education support, the majority of placements focus on classroom assistance and supervising pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects.
About the School:
You will be working in inclusive and well-structured schools that prioritise high expectations, positive behaviour, and mutual respect. These schools foster a culture of teamwork and consistency, where clear routines and strong role models help students feel secure and motivated. Staff work collaboratively to create purposeful learning environments where students are encouraged to develop resilience, confidence, and independence.
About the Role:
Depending on the needs of the school, you will either support teaching staff within lessons as a Teaching Assistant or take the lead as a Cover Supervisor, delivering pre-set work in the teacher’s absence. Your coaching experience will support you in maintaining structure, engaging students, and managing behaviour effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support students across a variety of subjects and year groups within the classroom.
• Deliver pre-prepared lessons confidently and ensure learning objectives are met.
• Maintain strong behaviour management in line with school policies.
• Encourage teamwork, resilience, and active participation.
• Provide pastoral support and promote positive attitudes towards learning.
• Act as a professional and reliable role model at all times.
Requirements:
• Background in Sports Coaching, Personal Training, or a related field.
• Experience working with young people (desirable but not essential).
• Confidence leading groups and maintaining authority.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Adaptable, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to work.
Why Apply?
• Excellent pathway into a long-term career in education.
• Flexible long-term and day-to-day opportunities available.
• Opportunity to gain valuable classroom and leadership experience.
• Potential progression into permanent school-based roles.
